Food for the Soul
Without Universal laws to guide humankind, life would be total chaos.
The Law of the Present Moment
The present moment is a powerful goddess…Goethe
In a practical sense, time clearly exists. We have memories of the past; and assume future events will happen. It seems absurd to suggest that time does not exist, like an abstract philosophy.
The Law of the Present Moment is not an abstract concept. Time is the abstract concept. This law is for us all to apply, especially when we have regrets about the past or we worry about the future. When we bring our attention back to now, the eternal present, we can change our lives forever, which is of course, also now.
Most of our problems, regrets, and worries do not exist this moment. We keep them alive by our thoughts, pictures and feelings stored in our mind in ‘past’ and ‘future’.
The Law of the present Moment can clear our psyche of debris and bring us back to a state of simplicity and inner peace. It cannot help us in the future or in the past. It reminds us how reality really is, not as we wish it to be. Only this timeless moment exists.
When we have a problem, it is usually about something that has already happened or what we anticipate will happen. We almost never have a problem in the present moment.
Our bodies live in the present moment. Despite all the thoughts about past mistakes or future problems, The Law of the Present Moment reminds us that only now exists.
Exercise
Think about a past worry or regret or impatience. Did the associated feeling actually happen in that moment? Did the feeling stem from thoughts about the past that passed through your mind in that moment?
Do you have any problems in your life right now – this instant. How many actual moments do you actually experience this problem?
