A Soul-Centered Guide rooted in Spiritual Psychology
Overcoming Adversity
Adversity is part of being human.
Adversity doesn't mean something has gone wrong.
Adversity often means something is asking for attention, care, or integration.
The goal isn't avoidance, it's relationship.
Practical Day-to-Day Support
5 Gentle Practices:
-
Pause before interpretation (Notice what happened before deciding what it 'means' for you.)
-
Name the feeling, not the story (I "feel hurt" or "I'm not enough, etc.")
-
Separate worth from the circumstance Ask: What here is in my control, and what isn't?)
-
Ground yourself in the present moment (One simple practice: place your feet on the floor, breathe slowly, be aware of your body.)
-
Return to inner prompt (A question: What do I know to be true about myself, even now?)
A Grounding Reflection
Find a quiet moment. Place one hand on your chest or somewhere that feels comforting. Take a slow breath in… and a longer breath out.
Then gently reflect on the following:
-
What feels hardest for me right now?
-
What is just one action I can take now?
-
Where am I being asked to be kinder to myself?
-
What do I need — not to try to fix this moment, but to be with it and let insights in ?
-
If I stayed connected to who I am, what would that look like today?
There is no need to answer perfectly. Notice what arises.
A Simple Anchoring Practice
When life feels overwhelming, say to yourself: I can stay connected to myself, even when things are hard.
Repeat it quietly. Let it settle.
You may not feel immediate relief. Hang in there. Grounding is about presence, not escape.
Remember,
Adversity does not define you. How you stay connected to yourself through it, is where your strength is.

Colleen,
I so appreciated our session on November 10. Together we found our way to some deep emotions/hurt that had been with me for years.
As I mentioned during the session I had already reached out to various people (social workers, psychologists) for help with my particular issue. Though I found my last life coach to be untrustworthy, she did help up to a point. Then She became a problem. You helped me past that.
You asked why I trusted you after my last experience. I gave an incomplete answer. When I got home, I thought about your question some more. The answer is that you exude a special warmth, sincere caring. Love. My last counsellor (?) treats it like a business, cold, professional. I felt that you really cared about, not just me, but everyone and everything.
I do feel an extra “lightness” after our session.
Thank you, SC

Dear Colleen,
I would like to thank you for your time and efforts to help me in the darkest hour of my life. I am very appreciative of your encouragement and your ability to listen. That's precisely what I needed now!
Allow me to share the thoughts that were ingrained in my mind as the result of our session. First, I feel that I gained a much clearer understanding of my inner strength and resilience. This conversation confirmed my belief that pressure and obstacles do not define me; rather, my response and mindset determine the ability to face the challenges and remain balanced and focused. Moving forward, I shall try to employ my inner resources more often.
With Gratitude, RT
